Chlorine
|
Chlorine is arguably one of the most beneficial yet questionable agents in water disinfection.
Township water systems are all chlorinated. While within the acceptable limits set out by the Drinking Water Standards, some people look to remove chlorine due to it's objectionable taste and odour. It can dry out skin, has potential byproducts when mixed with other elements and can make drinking water unpalatable. Recent advancements in treatment technology have worked to reduce chlorine levels but it remains the primary agent in keeping our water disinfected. |

Some rural homes and cottages have chlorinators as a primary defense against bacteria and many facilities are mandated to have chlorine as part of their water supply. Caution must be taken when using chlorine in rural settings. Septic systems are not meant to have chlorine (Javex, Bleach), it will destroy necessary bacteria for their proper function. Potential byproducts and the proven link with dead vegetation creating carcinogenic THM's (Trihalomenthane) questions the use of chlorine in rural settings.
At Wahl Water Treatment we encourage you to consider all of your options when you have a chlorinated water source. Removal of chlorine from water can be at one tap or for your whole home or facility. We offer a variety of options to match your needs. See Carbon Systems for more information. |
